Life’s banquet

.
It was around the turn of the century and life was hard for the family living from the land. So hard that they decided that they had to believe the promise of the new world. So they sold what little they had and only just managed to buy passage on an ocean liner to North America. Their cabin was below the water line and it could, at best, be described as only adequate, but they were going to the new world. Life would be better there. For food the father had begged the indulgence of a farmer to sell him a sack of turnips for the few pennies he had left in order to feed the family on the 12 day journey across the sea. They all believed in the promise and were prepared to sacrifice in order to have that promise fulfilled.
They were going to the new world. Life would be so much better there.
And as the great steamship started out to sea the family was on deck, with everyone else, to wave goodbye to the land they had called home. It was not terribly hard to wave goodbye, for they had left nothing at all behind. Everything was gone. They had only their hopes and they had their sack of turnips. Life would be better very very soon.
So each day the family would come up to the top deck and enjoy the sun and live in their belief that they only had to wait a little bit longer for the something better that was coming in North America.
There was one problem. While on the deck it was impossible to miss the aroma coming from the galley and the view of the great dining room with the massive buffet. It became increasingly difficult to face the sack of turnips. It wasn’t long before the children could no longer be coerced to come out into the sunshine. The smell of the wonderful food that they could not have was too much to bear. Indeed, by the eighth day neither the children nor the mother would leave the windowless cabin in the bottom of the ship. The father was feeling helpless in a way that he had never experienced before. By the tenth day no one, not even the father could eat even one bite of turnip. Something had to be done.
On the evening of the eleventh day, feeling helpless and broken the father went out to find the Captain of the ship. This was absolutely the most difficult task he had ever set for himself, for he was a very proud man.
The normally so cheerful Captain slowly lost all expression as he stood before this poor farmer, hat in hand, telling his story. The father, finally, with halting voice, begged the Captain “to please allow… at least the children, to have just one pass at the wonderful buffet, just one meal, please”.
The Captain was visibly moved by this plea. He touched the father’s shoulder, and… as gently as he could, said, “my very good man, all ticket holders, including your whole family, are entitled to all meals”.

Indian inmates take Yoga classes to reduce jail time
Share
.
New Delhi - Yoga, the Indian art of exercise and meditation, can strengthen muscles, improve concentration and increase a sense of spiritual well-being, its practitioners claim.
Now, it can also get you out of jail. Prison officials in Madhya Pradesh, in central India, have launched a scheme which will grant inmates reductions on their sentences.
For every three months each prisoner spends performing sun salutations, down dog stretches, pranayam heavy breathing exercises and chanting “Om”, his or her release date will be brought forward by 36 days.
According to prison officials at Gwalior Jail, 400 prisoners are now taking part in the scheme, and 68 inmates are set to have their sentences reduced. The prison authorities believe yoga will not only improve their fitness, but make them calmer, less violent and more positive when they are finally released. One prisoner said his anger had subsided since he began practising yoga, and that he planned to teach the discipline after he is released.
“We are running yoga classes in many jails. The objective is to help inmates master the art, bust stress, manage anger and keep fit,” said Mr Sanjay Mani, Inspector-General of Prisons, Madhya Pradesh.
For those thinking of scaling the walls or digging tunnels to escape, the fastest escape will now be with the lotus position.

Are You Out Of Your Mind?
Share
.
Your mind is your free will and your tool that differentiates you from everyone and everything else, it allows you to experience you as you are now and here, or your possible future.
Your ego however, is part of your mind that thinks that you are your ego.
Your mind is in every single cell in your body. Your mind functions from your past data while the soul from your wisdom in every present moment. Your mind has the tendency to match your past data, and then adds your present moment when you are experiencing something new, or your mind travels backwards in time to retrieve all information from previous moments and compare to this present moment you are experiencing.
Your mind cannot see the future, but your past, so it has the tendency to pay more attention to the negative because you have become attached to the pain and the drama. Your mind has a very limited perception of the present moment because it has the tendency to go back to your past data and that all it knows.
However, this present moment can invite your mind to start a new thought process in order to make things more constructive, so invite you to pay attention to the apparent rather than to what is clearly imagine.
Your mind is the smallest aspect of yourself. Your mind can create your physical reality and your experiences. Your soul can evolve much faster when you give up what your mind wants. Sometimes when your mind wants something is not what is best for your soul. Your mind holds your judgments and what you have witnessed in the past, which will influence in your present decisions and choices. Your mind can help you decide to feel a certain way if you chose to, because it is your thoughts that will trigger your emotions.
Your mind contains knowledge or information, but does not have wisdom, your soul does.
You can think faster when you ignore your past data become more in touch with your soul and your present moment. All your changes start at the psychological level because it is your mind that will create your new perspective about yourself.
Your mind does not know the different between what is real and what is imagined. Your mind creates your truth and does not observe it because of insufficient critical thinking. So, if you want to experience real and spiritual life, you have to be out of your mind.

Architecture of Well-being
Share
When we sat down to deconstruct the notion of well-being, that most elusive of words, we knew that part of the problem is this disconnect between what designers think is comfortable and what a building’s occupants expect. Today, of course, the calibration of comfort has never been easier; diagnostic tools can predict daylight distribution, probability of glare discomfort, heat transfer and even thermal sensation.
But tools aside, we need to revisit the fundamentals of passive design against changing lifestyles. In a conversation with Wong Mun Summ and Richard Hassell of WoHa Design (The FuturArc Interview) we discover that architects walk a line, as it were, between responsible passive outcomes (less energy) and occupant preference for mechanical cooling (more energy). The result, if well considered, can be energy efficient, plus an innovative rethinking of architectural form and the climate-envelope-occupant interface.
Then there is another aspect of well-being, something less quantifiable but important nonetheless. Wellness, as distinct from comfort, results from a complex reading of the environment, colours, patterns, light, space, volume, etc. Dr Ruzica Bozovic Stamenovic—an expert in the domain of healing spaces—explains to us this notion of holistic wellness in the design of healthcare facilities. The Peraliya Community Health Centre in Sri Lanka by Justin Hill is a heartwarming example of this, as it seeks to heal mind and body, following the 2004 tsunami. The layers unfold with other projects, from temples and churches to resorts and sports amenities, each with its own take on what wellness means. The Alila properties in Bali and Maldives, for instance, argue that wellness of the individual is entirely compatible with—arguably a necessary precondition for—wellness of the planet.
The project that we think best exemplifies the union of mind, body and soul is the FuturArc Showcase, a small community project in the rugged terrain of Bhutan that seeks to connect its occupants, a community of novice monks, with their inner selves—tradition, culture and community—and an external reality—land, climate and activity. The designers speak of the Happiness Index (!!!) alongside the Energy Index, a blend of quality and quantity rarely seen today. We hope it inspires you, as it did us.

Used Vs Loved
Share
While a man was polishing his new car, his 4 yr old son picked up stone and scratched lines on the side of the car. In anger, the man took the child’s hand and hit it many times; not realizing he was using a wrench. At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures.
When the child saw his father with painful eyes he asked, ‘Dad when will my fingers grow back?’ The man was so hurt and speechless; he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times. Devastated by his own actions…….sitting in front of that car he looked at the scratches; the child had written ‘LOVE YOU DAD’.
The next day that man committed suicide. . . Anger and Love have no limits; choose the latter to have a beautiful, lovely life…..
Things are to be used and people are to be loved, But the problem in today’s world is that, People are used and things are loved…
During this year, let’s be careful to keep this thought in mind: Things are to be used, but People are to be loved … Be yourself……This is the only day we HAVE.
Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

The inner wolf
Share
.
A wise old Cherokee man teaches life to his grand-son.
“A struggle takes place within me, he tells the boy. A terrible fight between two wolves. One is bad: he is anger, envy, pain, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, conceit, superiority and ego.
The other one is good: he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, sérénité, humility, kindness, compassion, empathy, generosity, truth and faith. The same struggle takes place within you and within every one.”
The grand son thinks about it for a minute, then asks his grand father :
“Which wolf will win ?”
The old Cherokee wise man simply answers: ”The one you feed.”
